Question 950 Routine Maintenance

New Member. I'm hoping all the experience out there can be shared...
Does anyone do their own basic maintenance? Oil and filter changes for example.
Does the factory "Service required" light drive you crazy too?

I rode the 950 for 1000 Kms, took it in for the $300 oil change and "factory service" light reset. Now its a year old with 3800 kms on it and the service light is about to come on even though its been in a warm garage all winter.
I want to change the oil as per the manual mileage, not by the calendar month.
It seems strange, (and expensive) to have to make an appointment to have a light turned off if I change my own oil?

Resetting the factory service depends on your dealer, some are willing to do it for you if you perform the oil change yourself or you may run into the annoying ones that claim they won't reset the light for you since they didn't do the service. Best to check with your dealer first before changing it yourself.

When I did my 9000 mile service I saved my receipt for the oil and oil filter and took pictures as I did the work just in case my dealer wanted proof. However, the service manager did not ask for proof but did ask me a couple of questions and they reset the service light for a fee.

just a ragged clown behind...
