G'day from Australia

G'day. Some years ago I had a Hypermotard. Not the best touring bike around but a lot of fun. I test rode the 1200 Gran Tourismo and really liked it, but having just put all my spare money into a new business venture I had to settle for a 1100S from 2009. A few weeks ago I saw the 950 and though why the **** not try it out. Wasn't impressed too much as it hadn't been set up correctly in suspension and tyre pressure. The salesman was pushing me towards a 2016 1200s.

Last weekend, after a few weeks thinking and reading I put a deposit on a red 950 with all 4 packs plus heated grips. I sold the 1100s for $1500 more than the trade in offer and now am just waiting till I get a spare weekend to go and collect it. The dealer is a 4 hour ride away, or 6 relaxing hours by train.

I'm hoping for an excellent bike to ride to Phillip Island for MotoGP and WSBK.

I live on the mid north coast of NSW and have some great roads at my doorstep.

cheers
Steve

Well did adjusting suspension and tire pressure improve it?

I haven't got the bike yet. I'm sure it'll be perfect. First ride will be about 6 hours long just to get home.

Welcome to the forums. If you weren't too impressed because it wasn't set up properly, why did you think to go back for it??

The more I read about it, the more I figured it's the kind of bike I want. My 1100S handles very well, but was nervous on dirt. I tend to tour more dirt roads now, so the 19" front wheel makes sense. I come from a dirt riding background.

Sweet! What other bikes did you have that you took on dirt?

that's what I remember seeing a lot of... those hypers not ideal for off road which could explain why I always seen more of them in the city than in any other situation... but that sort of goes for a lot of duc's these days.

Well I picked it up on Saturday morning. What a lovely bike it is. I live 4 hours north of Sydney so I took the long way up Putty Rd. After 450 klm I can say it is better than expected. Handles sweet and after the motor loosened up a bit I was loving the torque. The seat is way better than the 1100S I had, the suspension more than nice for an old bloke like me.

The only thing not fitted is the heated grips, but the weather was perfect for a long ride.

My dirt riding is/was mainly twin shock trials on a TL125 and Montesa Cota 172

Gosh darn that looks glorious! I presume you're going through a proper break-in process? Will you be doing the first service on your own?
